Once in a lifetime...

It's hard to have to say goodbye to someone you after only seeing them for a few days, and knowing you won't meet again for quite a while. Gav is gone, back to Chicago to finish school at Wheaton College in IL. The better half of my heart is 2000 miles away. It hurts. I take comfort in knowing I get to see him in 7 weeks (well 6 now), but unfortunately, that doesn't make saying goodbye any easier. After he leaves, I usually mope around for about a week (which I've done), then slowly start to regain my usual joy...but it's never fully back until my love is back with me. Perhaps its wrong that much of my happiness rests on him, but at the moment, I can't help it. Don't get me wrong, my true joy is found in God, He has the ability to dull the pain, but it's still there. I know I sound like a whiney little college student right now...lol...and thats exactly what I am. I know there are thousands of people who say goodbye to their loved ones, never knowing for sure if they will come back...so I am grateful for the certainty of Gav's return (Lord willing). I guess what I'm really asking for is if you catch me moping around....please kick me out of it! :) He'll be back in May, after he graduates, and thank goodness...he'll be home for good! :) I cannot wait!

haha...I'm just rambling now...so I will leave you here with these lyrics...

"I can see it in your eyes and feel it in your touch
I know that you're scared but you've never been this loved
It's a long shot, baby, I know it's true,
But if anyone can make it, I'm betting on me and you
Just keep on moving in to me
I know you're going to see
The best is yet to come

Don’t fear it now; we're going all the way
Where the sun is shining on a brand new day
It's a long way down, and it's a leap of faith
But I’m never giving up, 'cause I know we got a once in a lifetime love

Everybody's looking for what we've found
Some wait their whole lives and it never comes around
So don’t hold back now,
Just let go of all you’ve ever known
And put your hand in mine

Don’t fear it now; we're going all the way
Where the sun is shining on a brand new day
It's a long way down, and it's a leap of faith
But I’m never giving up, 'cause I know we got a once in a lifetime love

I close my eyes and I see you standing right there
Saying “I do” and they’re throwing rice in our hair
Then the first one’s born, then a brother comes along and he’s got your smile
I’ll be looking back at the life we had still at your side

So don't fear it now; we're going all the way
Where the sun is shining on a brand new day
It's a long way down, and it's a leap of faith
But I’m never giving up, 'cause I know we got a once in a lifetime love"

spring break road trip!

Last week was a break week for me. You all know that I go to Brooks, and every 7 weeks, we have 1 week off. Well this last week off happened to coincide with Gavin's spring break. Perfect! So we decided to head up to the Bay area. I was originally going to assist a friend of Gav's family with a shoot for her company Picture People. Her studio is located in Foster city, which is just south of San Fransisco. We learned before the trip that the shoot was cancelled, well...most likely cancelled, but we decided to head up that direction anyway. Gav has family that lives in Sonoma, and Santa Rosa, and I have friends in Santa Rosa, so we figured a little road trip was in order. We headed up there Sunday, March 4th, and spent the next few days with Gav's grandparents. It was sooo much fun! :) We modeled for Lisa (the Picture People lady) for engagement pics...no we arent engaged yet...it was pretend...hehe. As soon as I get the chance I'll try to post a couple of those. We were posed...and neither one of us are used to modeling while being posed so specifically...I think they are kinda stiff...but there are a few cute ones. We had dinner with my old friends Garrett and Colette Gregg (and their two little ones...Hailey and Keira). On the way home we took HWY 1...found a lighthouse, gorgeous clouds, and an incredible handcrafted coast by our one and only God. Thankfully the sky was beautiful, cuz it's the only time I took pics all week! Here are some of the good ones! (almost all done with my Canon Powershot....best little camera in the world!

...arms of love

As I was looking through old photographs tonight, (some as recent as high school, and others as old as my baby years) I was reminded of how blessed I have been through my life. I found photos of my daddy and me fishing when I caught my first trout with a marshmallow. Ones from my great grandfather and I pretending to fight (kung-foo style...or as we called it "...karate chop...hhhiiiiii-ya"). Countless trips to Quaker Meadow Camp (my church camp growing up), and Mammoth trips, and volleyball pics, and old high school crushes, and dances, and family parties, and the list goes on and on and on! But one common theme through-out all these pictures from the various stages of my life is love, and people. Each photograph is a reminder of how much I am loved, not just by my parents, and family, but by the many friends in and out of my life while growing up, and the teachers and church staff that helped make a difference in my life. And the teammates, and coaches, and mentors. Not each from of love was the same, there were certainly varying degrees of it, but nevertheless...there has been no shortage of love in my life. These photos just remind me of times that are to be cherished, with people we love, and not taken for granted.

I guess I have really realized this in the last year due to my long-distance relationship. It keeps me thankful for the time we do have together. No matter how short, or busy with family stuff, or how much work awaits...it helps me keep things in perspective. I pray that I never take for granted those in my life that love me, put time and effort into a relationship with me, and care to make a difference.

Dear Heavenly Father....
Thank you for all the incredible people in my life that have shown me your love. Make me a conduit, showing your love to all those around me. Keep me in check when I begin to forget how blessed I truly am. Thank you for your consistent reminders of how much I need to rely on You and others to help guide me through life. I pray that You help me to stay faithful to Your call to love both my enemies, and my best friends. Thank you for Your LOVE God. You are the best example of what I pray I can be. I love you.

in Your name...
